In this article we will be looking at cable management and flexible conduits and how they are used. This form of electrical installation has been used to assist in a variety of ways and disciplines- from the installation of electrical components in a house/building to the installation of data conduits for technological uses.

The world of cable management and flexible conduits has come a long way in terms of the components, capabilities and uses to which they are applied. In the majority of instances, the flexible conduits are used in underground installations in various homes and buildings. This process should involve a qualified specialist in this field to ensure that the right option is selected to suit the project being undertaken. Don’t be afraid to ask questions every step of the way. Make sure that you at least have a basic understanding of the process so that you can follow along on the progress.

There are a few things that should be taken into consideration going forward. They are:-
• Some type of consideration should be given to the type of project (whether it’s for a domestic or industrial)
• The location of the installation (this type of installation is usually done underground but there have been instances where it was done as part of a wall or ceiling)
• The weather (the weather condition affects how much and the aspect of the installation that can be done at that point in time)
• A cable management system ( this can help regulate and protect the installed conduits)

In many instances today, you see examples of flexible conduits (pliable, braided and pvc-just to name a few) being used in different ways and from the time that you are dealing with multiple types of conduits then some type of cable management system needs to be put in place not only to regulate but to protect the conduits as well. One of the more popular types of conduits used are the bespoke flexible conduit that basically help keep the wiring not only in place but protected (over a period of time) as well.

As stated before, some type of consideration needs to be given to the way in which the conduit/s will be used. My reason for emphasizing this is simple. You find that conduits are made from a variety of metal materials (rigid metal, galvanised rigid, intermediate metal and electrical metallic) as well as a few non-metal materials (plastic, fibre, fired clay). These non-metal conduits can only be used in certain circumstances so caution has to be exercised.

As with most things there are advantages and disadvantages to using certain types of conduits and the final choice should be made by your qualified technician. Yes you can have a say in the process but at the end of the day unless you are very knowledgeable in the field, you should let the expert do their job and make the best choice for your application.
