Masoud Amidi-Mazaheri is thankful to live in a country where access to health care is easy and affordable for many people. With his knowledge and skill as a pharmacist, Masoud Amidi-Mazaheri has volunteered for different medical centers in Iran.

Masoud Amidi-Mazaheri is proud of his Canadian education. As a student, he studied Biology and Chemistry at Saint Mary's University in Nova Scotia, Canada. After earning his basic degree, he earned a Master's before he attended Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Masoud Amidi-Mazaheri is a member of several organizations and associations related to his profession. He is affiliated with the Pharmacy Association of Ontario, College of Pharmacy Ontario, Pharmacy Association of Nova Scotia, and College of Pharmacy of Nova Scotia. Masoud Amidi-Mazaheri is also injection and immunization certified.
Being licensed, certified, and trained by several organizations, Masoud Amidi-Mazaheri decided to spend time volunteering where he knew his skills as a pharmacist would be needed and appreciated. "I decided to take time out and be a volunteer pharmacist in Iran. I volunteered and worked for a number of small villages around Tehran and Isfahan, Iran. Much of the work I performed was in either small medical centers or hospitals," says Masoud Amidi-Mazaheri.

In Iran, the constitution which entitles Iranians to basic health care and vaccination programs does a lot to keep the population healthy. Fortunately, Iran also has some of the highest standards of safe drinking water, also promoting a healthier populous. With basic health care provided, volunteers like Masoud Amidi-Mazaheri are available to help distribute the order of medication and answer any questions patients have.

"What I do in Iran as a volunteer is much of the same thing I do in Canada; I fulfill prescriptions and educate patients on the medication they receive. Patients who understand their diseases and medication are more efficient at managing those diseases," says Masoud Amidi-Mazaheri. One of the benefits of his position as a pharmacist is having a skill that is essentially universal.

When Masoud Amidi-Mazaheri traveled to Iran to perform his volunteer services, he knew it would be the smaller villages that would be in most need of his services. "The large cities have greater access to funding. The medical centers have the latest in medical equipment and a full staff. When volunteering, you go where you are needed. Often times, these are the smaller locations that are in desperate need for professionals," says Masoud Amidi-Mazaheri.
