Will Smith is a bully.
Novelist J.E. Takes Smith and Hollywood to task for protecting a bullying assault.

USA-We have heard many takes on the Will Smith assault on Chris Rock in front of the entire world. People want to blame race, feminism, the break down of the American family, etc...But, no one wants to talk about what it really was bullying.

Will Smith, who is both physically larger and the more powerful A-lister, walked on stage to bully Chris Rock. And, sadly there were people in that room who supported the bully and there are others outside who do as well.

Why?

Various reasons. I think some have been so beaten down with guilt over the last few years they just cannot bring themselves to call out a black man even when he is assaulting another black man. That is not progress. Progress would be a world where bullies are treated as they should be.

A few years ago, Hollywood embraced the It Gets Better campaign against bullying, but on Sunday night they showed it so often doesn't get better.

Chris Rock has spoken about how his childhood bullying because of his size and later his size and race affected him. He quit high school because of it. I am sure that bullying helped him to develop his talent for comedy. I, too, spent years as a child being bullied and like Mr. Rock, I compensated by being funny and witty in order to survive. Watching that incident I see myself in Chris Rock and Will Smith looks like all my bullies. When after he was slapped, I could see Mr. Rock wanting desperately to use his words and take Smith down but he thought better of it. I identified with him even more, when host Wanda Sykes said that Mr. Rock apologized to her and her co-hosts. Because that is what a person who has experienced bullying does. We don't blame the bully, we blame ourselves. Because untimely that is what bullying does, it makes the person being bullied feel like it is all caused by our existing, instead of it being the result of the bully.

We have to send a message that not only will we not tolerate bullying on the playground but we also won't tolerate it in the adult world either. If we become a world where the bullies are allowed to answer words with violence, we live in a world made only for bullies, whether their name is Karen or Will.

To Mr. Chris Rock, also a native of the Palmetto State, I say hang in there brother you behaved in a way we can all be proud of. We the bullied have to stick together.
