Remote Worker not discouraged by Labor Bureau report

While a recent report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics found that the number of businesses offering remote work at least some of the time decreased, RemoteWorker.jobs is not discouraged by the findings.

As a recent report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics found that the number of businesses offering remote work at least some of the time decreased, the CEO of an online jobs board dedicated to remote opportunities across the country said they were not discouraged by the findings.

“Most reports we’ve seen on this have used it for a narrative that remote work is ‘dwindling,’” said Joseph Boll, RemoteWorker.jobs CEO. “But actually, this report confirms that the percentage of businesses offering fully remote work has increased.”

Remote Worker is an online jobs board and resource website for remote workers, remote work jobseekers, and hiring managers, employers and HR personnel seeking to recruit and hire the top talent for remote positions.

Boll was citing the Labor Bureau’s 2022 Business Response Survey, which found that 11.1 percent of businesses surveyed were operating completely remotely during the period August-September 2022. This was an increase from 10.3 percent of fully remote businesses between July-September 2021.

“That seems like a small percentage difference,” Boll continued, “but it actually accounts for hundreds of businesses that switched to being fully remote year-over-year. On the other hand, while the survey found that fewer businesses were offering remote work, this is likely companies that had been hybrid with the intention to return to the office eventually from the start, seeing as the number of fully remote businesses actually increased.”

The CEO spoke to a recent trend of media publications seeming to push a narrative that remote work is “dying down” as even some big-name companies have continued to wage war on remote work, attempting to forcefully herd workers back into physical offices and even threatening to fire workers that refuse to comply. However, he also noted how remote workers in this challenging position have not relented easily, either outright quitting rather than return or issuing petitions to attempt to fight RTO mandates.

As such, Boll said, “We’re not discouraged by the findings. In fact, it shows that companies that have embraced remote work appear to be quite satisfied with the arrangements, and that even more are coming onboard. This lines up with findings from companies like Indeed and LinkedIn, which found that remote jobs receive the biggest number of applicants by far. Remote jobs are still thriving, and we don’t expect that to change anytime soon.”
