January 22, 2022 – The MarketHER Group, a DEIB-focused membership community for women in marketing, welcomes career and life coach Carleen Hicks to the community. Carleen will offer Pro Talks and workshops aimed at supporting members in learning better strategies to cope with work stress and create a work-life they love. Carleen's Pro Talk, "Persuasive at Work: Three Communication Strategies to Make you More Influential," will be hosted on The MarketHER membership platform on Wednesday, January 11th, at 7 pm EST.

“Building influence at work for women means connection, but it can be hard to see how to do that, especially with people whose working style is very different from your own. I love helping women gain confidence and influence at work, so they can build a life they love.”
- Carleen Hicks, founder of Love Your Working Life

It’s no secret that women want more out of their work lives. After reading the 2022 Women in the Workplace report, published by McKinsey & Company along with women's group Lean In, The MarketHER Group founder Natalie Thomas launched her mission to support fellow women marketers. The report explains the causes and effects of women feeling burnt out, under-acknowledged and unrewarded.

Several other studies of women in the marketing industry mirror these findings. One such LinkedIn article entitled, How Women in Marketing Are Advancing in the New World of Work, showed that women are successfully ascending the ladder, accounting for 53% of director-level or higher positions and 59% of manager-level positions. Yet, while 52% of Chief Marketing Officers are women, only 13% of all CMOs have racially diverse backgrounds, leaving Asian, Latina, and Black women critically underrepresented. The persistence of racism and sexism continues to adversely affect intersectional women in various occupations, offering them scant opportunities for leadership.

The MarketHER Group, in partnership with Lean In, offers mentorship as a solution. Our members support each other in achieving their ambitions through Advisory Circles and professional skills-building resources. And craft working lives they love.

"We're thrilled to have Carleen join our community. She comes with a wealth of experience and keen insights. And engages audiences with energetic charisma."
- Natalie Thomas, founder of The MarketHER Group

Carleen has a B.A. from the University of Manitoba (Canada), focusing on our shared human history. She became fascinated with the welfare of people navigating today’s complex organizational systems, so she returned to study Human Resources. Carleen has worked for over twenty years as a Human Resource professional in organizations ranging from small start-ups to large multinationals in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors. Mid-career, Carleen completed her Master’s certification with Integral Coaching Canada©, empowering her to shift her focus from the needs of employees to the individual needs of women navigating the “modern” workplace.

The MarketHER Group is a warm and supportive DEIB-focused community of Women Marketers dedicated to providing Women Marketers with the resources they need to navigate bias, grow their leadership skills, and lean into their strengths.
