Ontario, Canada, June 28, 2019 – As they grow, children face different obstacles and experience grief, bullying and stress. It can be quite challenging to know when the child can independently work through these issues and when they may need professional assistance. As a result, many parents tend to wait before they seek therapy services for their kids. Here are signs that your child may need to see a counselor.

Regressing
Most children will regress when they undergo a major change in their lives, for example, a divorce between parents, a sudden move, or the birth of a new sibling. Parents should watch out for behaviors or changes that may occur after a big change because they indicate that there is a problem. Some of these include clingy behavior, tantrums, excessive fearfulness, bedwetting, whining, and many more.

Difficulties in school, at home, and beyond
When a kid is struggling with his/her emotions, they usually behave badly in all areas of their lives. Therefore, you may find that the child has issues with teachers and other students in school, at home, and even in his/her social life. In such instances, it is best to seek the services of a therapist for children.

Changes in appetite and sleeping habits
Kids who are going through mental or emotional issues may experience drastic changes in their appetite and even sleep habits. Some of the worrisome symptoms include eating too little or too much, trouble falling and staying asleep or frequent nightmares. Some children may also experience excessive stomachaches and headaches.

Isolating themselves
When it comes to children, friendships may change as they become older. However, if your child is avoiding his/her favorite friends, then this is a major red flag. Sudden isolation from friends may mean that the child is struggling with something. Kids may isolate themselves when they think that they are not good enough or everyone hates them.

Always worried and sad
Children of all ages will have worries and they will cry from time to time. However, worrying and constant crying is abnormal if it interferes with the ability of the child to take care of herself or go to school. If you notice that your child is always worried, then it is time to see a therapist or gender identity counselor.
It can be difficult to know when your child needs to seek a therapist. This is because young children may not know how to communicate what they need or how they are actually feeling. Whenever you notice any of the above signs, it is best that you take your child to see a therapist. Therapy sessions will teach them healthy coping mechanisms and they will be able to understand and express their feelings with ease.
