New Product Announcement - Software Tames the Supply Chain Monster

SCHENECTADY, NY, March 29, 2022 — P1ston, Inc. is on a mission to replace the Excel-email-telephone patchwork manufacturers use to track open purchase orders. A Capital District startup offering supply chain software for small- and medium-sized manufacturers, today P1ston announced the release of its cloud solution for purchase order tracking and supplier communications. For the last five months, the software has been in production use at Package One Industries, a local manufacturer and strategic investor in P1ston.

P1ston was formed to increase visibility and reduce disruptions in manufacturing supply chains, with its initial focus on inbound raw materials, parts, and components. Companies large and small rely on email, spreadsheets, and phone calls as clumsy means to monitor open POs. Such dated approaches are costly, cumbersome and error prone, and don’t meet modern supply chain visibility needs. The pandemic magnified preexisting problems.

“No one expects a perfect supply chain, but everyone wants better visibility and supplier communication,” said PJ Bellomo, P1ston Co-Founder and CEO. “With some exceptions, we’re currently onboarding Northeast manufacturers for our first cohort of customers. But honestly, the story is the same across the country. Manufacturers don’t have affordable and user-friendly supply chain tools.”

Originally from Upstate NY and a graduate of RPI, Mr. Bellomo spent 18 years serving as an executive in California and Washington, DC area tech startups. During a trip home in 2019, he discovered a startup culture that did not exist when he left. After several conversations with Upstate entrepreneurs and investors, P1ston was born. Mr. Bellomo and his co-founders specifically designed and priced the new platform for small- and medium-sized businesses who often operate with limited IT budgets and resources.

Ray Gillen, Chair of the Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority said, “We have a strong cluster of software companies in downtown Schenectady. We welcome PJ Bellomo’s return to the Capital Region to lead this new software start-up that addresses the critical need to manage supply chains, especially in a time when disruptions are possible.”
