Glenn Nøstdahl is Financial Strategy Manager and an experienced skier

Glenn Nøstdahl is the Financial Strategy Manager at Entecho, a maker of innovate flight technology that services the recreational and professional aviation industries.

He is also an avid skier who never misses an opportunity to strap on the skis. But skiing, he knows, is one of those sports that a lot of people try once or twice and then never return to. He thinks this is a great shame, and has some suggestions for people that might convince them to give skiing another try.

Beginning skiers have to bear one thing in mind: they are going to fall down a lot. There really is no way around it. Until you get your sense of balance and begin to feel comfortable on a pair of skis, you will slip and fall. It can be a little embarrassing, Glenn Nøstdahl says, but the important thing is to grin and bear it, get back up again, and keep going.

He says that within a day or so, most new skiers are getting their sense of balance and are able to try a green ski run, which are those that are rated the easiest. Adult beginners are often bothered that little kids with more ski experience pass them with ease. But it's all part of the learning process, says Glenn Nøstdahl.

It's really important to have good gear. Glenn Nøstdahl says to make sure your ski boots are a good fit. They should be big enough so that you can wiggle your toes, but not so big that you are able to move your feet from side to side. He adds that a good pair of ski boots are warm, and there is no need to wear a thick pair of socks. If you do, in fact, then you could lose circulation in your feet.

Glenn Nøstdahl says you should have some sort of waterproof pants when you ski. Ski pants are best, although you can get by with shells, which are thin but waterproof pants worn over another pair of pants. He says you should also have a waterpoof jacket. Clothing should be worn in layers, so that you can remove a layer or so if you get too warm. Like all other items of clothing, ski gloves should also be waterproof.

Helmets, says Glenn Nøstdahl, are becoming standard equipment for most skiers, and he says that he wouldn't dream of skiing without one. A helmet will protect your head and keep it warm at the same time.

Glenn Nøstdahl says that above all, you should proceed at your own pace. Skiing, after all, is supposed to be fun.
