Robert Bertel was born in 1956 in New Orleans. After making it through his primary schooling, he attended the University of New Orleans and earned himself a Bachelor’s degree in General Studies. In business, he helped open Smoothie King franchises on military bases in the southern United States and also held various positions in the shipping industry before opening Bertel Shipping Co. in 1982.
