When it comes to the restaurant industry, Shanisha Kurani is considered a major mover and shaker. Over thirty years ago, Shanisha Kurani opened the doors to her first restaurant franchise and she has had a flourishing career ever since. Shanisha Kurani’s first franchise venture was a Pizza Hut location, and in 2005 she was listed as a top franchisee for the company. Due to her overwhelming success, Shanisha Kurani was asked to be a board member for the International Pizza Hut Franchise Holders Association. Twenty years after opening the doors to her first franchise, Shanisha Kurani decided to open a Long John Silvers and Dunkin Donuts.

Shanisha Kurani has witnessed much success as a franchise owner and she recently spoke out about her decision to branch into the restaurant industry, she stated:

“I never would have guessed thirty years ago that I would be where I am today. I had researched opening a franchise and I felt like it was the best option for me, but obviously I was quite nervous. Opening a franchise requires a substantial financial investment. I think a common misconception that people have regarding franchises is they are guaranteed to be successful—that is not the case at all. I knew I was taking a huge risk when I decided to open a Pizza Hut several years ago. I decided to open a franchise versus my own restaurant because I am more of a business-oriented individual. I knew that with my strategic mind I would be able to lead a franchise to success. I did not want to worry about the creative aspect that goes along with running a business, like branding.”

Shanisha Kurani has paved her way to become a leader in the restaurant industry. She recently offered advice to those looking to break into the franchise world, she stated, “Opening a franchise is a great deal of work. Nothing is ever guaranteed, but I can say that when you succeed, you will feel an overwhelming sense of gratification! It is important to not go in with the mindset that the business is already established—you are still a business owner and you control the success of your branch.
