Roger Clough has always been passionate about education and his own educational background illustrates that well. Roger Clough has had the opportunity to put his skills to use in his work with students in the Massena Central School District.

Roger Clough is currently Superintendent for the Massena Central School District. Roger Clough’s education and experience have given him the knowledge he needs to bring success to the school district and its students.

Roger Clough began his post-secondary education at the State University of New York at Potsdam, where Roger Clough double majored in History and Elementary Education. Roger Clough returned to the State University of New York at Potsdam to pursue a Masters degree in Education during his first years as a teacher. Roger Clough majored in Reading while pursuing his Masters of Science degree in Education. In 2002, Roger Clough graduated from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, with a second Masters degree. After receiving his Masters of Education in School Administration and Supervision, Roger Clough began his administrative journey in the Massena Central School District.

In the fall following the completion of his second Masters degree, Roger Clough returned to Nightengale Elementary School, where he had previously taught, as an administrative intern. Roger Clough took over as Nightengale Elementary’s principal in January of the next year. Roger Clough served as principal of a junior high school in Massena Central School District as well before being named the District’s superintendent.

When Roger Clough stepped into the role as superintendent, the district was in the midst of a trying financial situation. Roger Clough was not an expert in finance when he was confronted with this situation. However, Roger Clough stepped up and made the hard decisions, including layoffs and staff reassignments, in order to provide the students of the district with the best possible opportunities and education. Though Roger Clough was unpopular with many for the decisions he made, he stood his ground knowing that he was acting in the best interests of the district’s students. “The students are always, and have always been, my primary concern,” said Roger Clough. “I did what needed to do for their benefit; making sure our students have the best education and opportunities is my only concern.”

Roger Clough applied much of the knowledge that he brought from his previous teaching experience and from his formal education. “Even with all I know, I’ve learned that there’s always something new to take from the job I do,” said Roger Clough.
