Parents of Orchard Hill Elementary School children are invited to a special RAH! (Reading at Home) Night in the winter. "Our Reading at Home program requires children to keep track of their reading books and hours," said Bridget Braney, the school's principal. The curriculum lasts many months and culminates in the school's RAH! event. "Guest readers read aloud from their favorite books for kids," Braney noted, "ranging from classroom instructors to local notables, including the school superintendent, local police officers, and firefighters, retired teachers, older children, and municipal leaders." Students pass from one reading to the next.
According to Braney, some school levels even build themed sets for their read-aloud guests. "Last year, fifth-graders studied the Oregon Trail, and read-aloud sessions were held over a wagon campfire."
