See What You See and Achieve Your Goals

Quests and adventures can be arduous, and filled with obstacles and conundrums. It helps when one can see clearly the lay of the land.

Moving forward in life, along any path, is always a work in progress, an improvisation. When you have in mind an end, a destination, a goal with some idea of the roads or ways to be traveled, you may, and probably will, have some unexpected roadblocks, barriers, and hills to climb. Some will be obvious and of the "real" world, like time, money, and who can take care of your cat, dog, parakeet or house and car while you are gone adventuring, even if the adventure is a daily nine to five. Other adventures can be longer term and at a great distance like studying in Nepal or scaling Mount Everest. You can learn about these things and be prepared for most of the barriers, be they organizing carpools or finding a sherpa. Some are surprises, which keep things interesting, but maybe not so easy. Then there are the things that are tricky. So often the tricky things come in the form of people who love you. There are those who will want you to continue as you are because you are woven into their lives in this particular way. It is real time and it is emotional. Sometimes you are the person feeding their parakeet...

Sometimes it is from those who love you, and even want you to have your adventure, your quest. In the midst of the randomness that gets stirred up by change, they are a refuge. They offer ideas of peace and rest, pleasure and poetry or song and dance. As you have set your goals and are traveling forward, these are the most tempting side trips, and maybe they, too, would answer some long sought dream, and anyway, it would be lovely... You see where I am going here? This won't get you to Nepal and Everest. It isn't even that they don't want you to have all your dreams. But weary, when you sit down to rest in comfort, it is difficult to then get up and move off into the rigors of change. So if you find yourself faltering on a journey toward a long held goal, check out whether some of your desires are at odds with your journey. A basic guideline is found in The Way to Happiness by L. Ron Hubbard. In it he says, "Look. See what you see, not what someone tells you to see." and, "True competence is based on one's own ability to observe. With that as reality, only then can one be deft and sure." www.TheWayToHappiness.org
