Kickstarter promises innovations with small satellites

July 22, 2015 - Cape Canaveral, Florida – A website that will offer real time Acquisition of Signal notifications from small and cube satellites has been launched

A new website, MyCubeSat.com, has been launched to offer real time Acquisition of Signal notifications from small and cube satellites. The website will be a repository of satellite data that will be availed to students and other users via twitter. The data will be collected for six major cities including Cape Canaveral, London, New York City, Denver, San Francisco, and Honolulu. By offering this information on Twitter, MyCubeSat.com will ensure that it can be assessed easily by the public on this user-friendly social media platform which is far better that the harder-to-access information available in other websites. The website will depend on the signals received from space, which require special antennas.

"MyCubeSat.com will offer free collected data from cube and small satellites in one place for satellite operators, students, and hobbyists to locate data which has been collected. Having such data in a centralized location will boost research and development of the technologies that rely on such information.

Users will be notified by an automated post via Acquisition of Signal or via their twitter feed of the “AOS” every time a cube satellite enters the area over a city that is circularly polarized. They will also be notified about the frequency of the satellite and its name plus a link to the website containing that latest data. Currently this kind of information is fragmented and difficult to access. The project and MyCubeSat.com would be running at TRL of 3.This project will offer an excellent resource for educators, space scientists, cube satellite operators, and the public at large, with the end result that participation by the public with cube satellites and NASA programs will be enhanced.

"Cube Satellites have made space communications, education and technology all within reach of everyday people, and have revolutionized the way humans can interact with Space and Space Exploration," said Aleksander Bologna, one of the developers of this website.

For the project to achieve its goals, the project and the website will use features that will allow for superior hardware for capturing data from amateur radio “pico” and “cube” satellites in both audible recordings and data packet form that make them easy to access.

The campaign for this project is currently running on Kickstarter and can be found at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1841518278/1009749695?token=6ba34a88. The developers say they anticipate some challenges in the development and demonstration of the project. These may include some minor technical difficulties to major ones like the process of location the current data for all orbiting cube satellites. There is also the issue of selecting ground station locations.

About My Cube Sat project:

The My Cube Sat project is a space communications start up founded by students from Florida State University and Embry Riddle University. The students have expert knowledge in Software Development and Satellite Communications thru Air Force contracts, DARPA projects and consumer electronics development.
