Clinical instructor Greig Ferguson recently joined an elite group of climbers, including HRH Prince Andrew, as they rappelled off of the Shard in London. Greig Ferguson participated in this event in order to support injured Royal Marines.

In the fall of 2012, Greig Ferguson was honored by an invitation to participate in a prestigious charity event. This London event was organized in support of charities that offer assistance to injured Royal Marines, namely the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund. As a former military nurse and a current member of the Royal Marines Association, Greig Ferguson was proud to join this exciting occasion.

In order to draw attention to the charity, HRH Prince Andrew asked Commando Spirit and the Outward Bound Trust to collect a group of climbers who would be willing to abseil off of the Shard. Greig Ferguson was delighted to join this select group. As the tallest building in Western Europe, the Shard presented a significant challenge to the climbers, but they successfully rappelled down the face of the building.

Although the feat was risky, Greig Ferguson was honored to be a part of such a unique occasion. “I knew that conquering this challenge would greatly benefit the brave Royal Marines who are currently suffering from injuries,” comments Greig Ferguson. “As a former Royal Marines Reservist and Royal Naval Nurse, and as a clinical educator, I feel that it is my duty to contribute to the efforts on their behalf.”

By accomplishing this impressive feat, Prince Andrew and Greig Ferguson were able to attract more publicity for the two charities that were organizing this event. Consequently, the two charities involved in the event were able to raise millions of pounds that directly benefited injured Royal Marines. Thanks to Greig Ferguson’s efforts, those Royal Marines will now hopefully receive better medical care without the burden of massive bills.

As Greig Ferguson continues his career as a self-employed clinical instructor, he plans to continue his volunteer work. “It was a great feeling to do something that so tangibly helped people in need,” he says. “I believe that everyone should be involved with a charitable organization.”

Unsurprisingly, Greig Ferguson has spent numerous hours volunteering for several other organizations. For instance, he has spent time conducting clinical courses for the British Heart Foundation. As a clinical educator, Greig Ferguson believes that he is able to impact the future of community-based resuscitation in Britain. In the future, he hopes to participate in other events such as this one that will raise millions more for worthy causes.
